WayVR #
WayVR (previously WlxOverlay-S) is a lightweight OpenXR/OpenVR overlay for Wayland and X11 desktops.
It lets you to access your desktop screens while in VR, and even launch apps directly in VR. It supports most desktop environments, and comes with a fully customizable keyboard and watch. WayVR also includes a playspace mover and can act like your home environment (void) when launched as the first app in Monado/WiVRn.
Please take a look at the WayVR README for installation and more info. For information on configuring controller bindings, customizing the skybox, or customizing the watch UI, see the WayVR wiki.
Where did WlxOverlay-S go? #
Before January 2026, the WlxOverlay-S, WayVR, and WayVR Dashboard were all discrete components that needed to be installed and configured separately. Now, it has all been integrated together into one piece of software, under the name WayVR.
Depending on your installation method, you may need to uninstall WlxOverlay-S then install WayVR (not “WayVR Dashboard”). This is certainly the case for Arch Linux, whose AUR package has been replaced with wayvr or wayvr-git.
